print a free pumpkin carving template from crowcreekpumpkinpatch.com.
Once you have printed the templates, use a copy machine
to increase or decrease the size of the template according to the size
of your pumpkin.

Carving Instructions:
- Wash and dry the pumpkin thoroughly and place on a newspaper to make cleanup
easier. Create a lid for the pumpkin by cutting a hexagon shape (six
sides) or a 4-6 inch circle around the pumpkin stem. Cut the lid on an inward angle to create a
ledge for the lid to sit on. Clean out the inside of the pumpkin
using a large spoon or an ice cream scoop.
NOTE: Always use tools specifically designed for carving Pumpkins.
- After printing and cutting out one of the above templates,
make cuts at the outer edges of the
pattern toward the center to help the pattern lie closer to the round
surface of the pumpkin. Then tape or pin the pattern to the surface
of the pumpkin in the desired location.
- Transfer the pattern by using a nail
or an ice pick to poke through the pumpkin's surface along the lines
of the template. Remove the template. Create the carving by cutting from dot to dot
and gently poking out the pieces with your fingers.
- Use a Q-tip covered with Vaseline or vegetable oil and cover the
cut edges of your pumpkin to seal in the
moisture. If you plan on eating the pumpkin later, omit this step.
- If your pumpkin begins to shrivel, it can be restore by soaking it
in water for 2-6 hours. Be careful not to oversoak because the pumpkin may crack. On average,
a pumpkin carving will last for approximately 2-7 days.
- Enjoy!!!
